If you have accrued Outdoorsy travel credits, you can easily apply them to your next adventure right at checkout! These travel credits are applied at the booking level, meaning once you attach them to a reservation, they are automatically deducted from the total amount you owe.
Ready to get those travel credits put to use? Here is everything you need to know about applying your credits and what to expect during the checkout process.
Types of Outdoorsy Travel Credits
You might see a few different types of credits in your account's credit balance. You can apply any of these at checkout:
Cash credits (Refund credits): Applied to your account as a form of refund from a previous cancellation.
Referral credits: Automatically applied to your account after a successful referral, provided all the Refer Friends program's conditions are met. (For more details, check out our main article on Referral credits: How do I use my referral credits?).
Courtesy credits: Occasionally, our support team may offer credits as a goodwill gesture to help with a specific situation.
How to Use Your Outdoorsy Credits
When you are ready to check out and have selected your vehicle, coverage, and add-ons, you can apply your credits on the "Pay and book" page of the checkout process.
Proceed with the checkout: Book the RV you're interested in as you would normally. Once you're ready to proceed, hit the "Review request" or "Instant book" button to reach the "Pay and book" stage, where you can choose to apply your credits.
See your available balance: Any travel credits you currently have in your account balance will automatically be displayed under the page's "Add your credit" section.
Check the box: You will see a checkbox option next to your available credits in this section. Check the box to apply them to your reservation, or leave it unchecked if you want to save them for a future trip.
Review the math: Click View breakdown to open the Price Breakdown module. Here, you can see exactly how your applied credits are deducted from your total.
Select a payment method: You must select a payment method to proceed, even if your credits cover the total booking amount.
How the Credit Balance is Deducted
All available credits are used: The system will automatically use your entire available credit balance and deduct it from the total amount you owe.
If your credits don't cover the full reservation amount: The "Price Breakdown" window will show the remaining balance, which will be charged to your selected payment method after the booking gets confirmed.
-
If your credits cover the full reservation amount: Your total due at checkout will reflect $0, and you can seamlessly submit your request and proceed to the booking confirmation page.
Important note about authorization holds: Even if your credits cover the full balance ($0 due), a temporary authorization hold for the full reservation amount will still be placed on your payment method. You can expect this hold to be released once your booking is confirmed. Once the booking is confirmed, the system applies your credits, and the hold on the equivalent amount is released back to your payment method.
Travel Credits and Temporary Authorization Holds
When you click Submit payment, it is important to know how your selected payment method is processed—especially if you apply travel credits to your booking.
Initial authorization hold: An authorization hold for the full reservation amount will be placed on your account before your credits are applied.
Why we do this: This process ensures your payment is pre-authorized, allowing the reservation to be secured seamlessly the moment the Host approves your request and the credits are applied.
It is not an actual charge: This is just a temporary hold - once the actual charge goes through, it will be adjusted to reflect your credits, so you only pay the difference. Any leftover funds from the hold will be released and made available in your account.
What Happens After You Submit
Once your booking request is sent, your travel credits are temporarily held—similar to a security deposit—pending the Host's approval.
If the Host approves the booking: Your booking will be confirmed, and your travel credits will be applied to the booking and consumed. You can expect a temporary hold on your payment method for the full reservation amount, which will be released once the actual charge goes through. Note that the actual charge will be adjusted so you are only billed for the amount not covered by your credits.
Paying the final balance: Your final trip balance will be automatically charged 30 days prior to your trip's start date (unless you selected "Pay in full" or your departure date is within 30 days of booking).
If the Host declines the booking: The temporary hold on your payment method will be released, and your travel credits will be released and returned to your available credit balance immediately!
If the booking is approved but later gets canceled: Depending on the refund you are eligible to receive based on the Outdoorsy cancellation policy, any travel credits you are entitled to will be released and returned to your available credit balance immediately!
