Sometimes the road calls for a little detour, or maybe that sunset at the coast is just too good to leave behind. Whether you’re looking to shift your adventure to a new window or keep the good times rolling with an extension, adjusting your dates is easy.
Keep in mind that while we make the request process a breeze, your Host still needs to give the "thumbs up" on their end to confirm the new schedule. Since prices can fluctuate based on seasonal rates or insurance adjustments, you’ll always get a clear look at the updated total before you commit.
Ready to recalibrate your compass? Here’s how to make it happen.
How to change or extend your trip dates (Before or during your trip)
Whether you’re still in the planning phase or you’re already parked by the lake and aren't ready to go home, the process for changing your dates is exactly the same.
Note: All date changes are requests sent to your Host. Your original booking remains "as-is" until the Host accepts the new dates.
Log in to your Outdoorsy account: Open the app or head to your Trips page
Navigate to your Trip Details: Find the specific booking you want to adjust
Select "Change your dates": This opens the calendar where you can scout for new availability
Input your new dates: Enter your suggested start and end dates (for extensions, just move the end date further out). Review your input, once you're okay with the dates, click or tap "Continue".
Review the updated total: Take a look at the request summary that includes the suggested new dates and the new price. Note that the new price total includes your updated nightly rates, service fees, insurance coverage, and taxes, so there are no surprises.
Submit your request: Click Confirm Request to send the proposal to your Host
Pro-Tip from the Road: If you're extending a trip while you're out there, try to submit your request at least 24 hours before your original return time. This gives your Host plenty of time to check their calendar and give you the green light by approving your request!
How long until my request gets approved by the Host?
The timing really comes down to your Host. Since they’re often out adventuring or prepping rigs themselves, response times can vary. However, the second your Host taps "Accept" on their end, our system moves into high gear, updating your booking and insurance instantly.
Pro Tip: If you’re on a tight timeline, it never hurts to shoot your Host a quick, friendly message through the Outdoorsy platform to let them know a request is waiting for their eyes!
How do I check my new total after the date change request has been approved?
Transparency is key when you're managing your travel budget. Once your Host hits "Accept" on your request, your booking total and breakdown update in real-time. You can find the updated numbers right on your Trip Details page, but if you need the full paper trail for your records, your booking receipt is the place to look.
To access your updated booking receipt:
Head to your Trip Details page: This is your home base for all things related to your current adventure.
Find your paperwork: Scroll down to the Rental documents section.
Grab the receipt: Click or tap the "Booking receipt, insurance card, and membership details" link to view or download your updated breakdown.
I’m still on the road, but my booking has officially ended—how do I extend?
Hey, it happens! Sometimes the campfire is too good, and time slips away. If your trip dates have already passed, the "Change your dates" button will disappear from your dashboard, but we can still help you get everything squared away.
Since the automated window has closed, this becomes a manual "team effort" between you, your Host, and our Customer Support team. But no worries, we'll do our best to keep everything smooth. Here’s the game plan:
Chat with your Host: Shoot your Host a message immediately to let them know you're looking to stay longer. You'll need their "thumbs up" first to ensure the rig isn't promised to another adventurer.
Contact Outdoorsy Customer Support: Once the Host is on board, contact our Customer Support team. Let them know you need a "trip extension" for an active trip.
Pricing & Approval: Our team will sync with the Host to confirm the extra night's pricing and insurance coverage. We’ll then reach out to you to confirm the final "all-in" price.
Date Extension Processing: Once you give us the green light on the cost, we’ll process the extension and send a confirmation to both you and the Host.
Pro Tip: To keep things smooth and ensure your insurance coverage doesn't skip a beat, try to reach out before your original checkout time. It’s always easier to extend while the clock is still ticking!
My trip extension/date change request has been approved. Does my insurance coverage get extended too?
You bet. When your Host accepts a trip extension, your protection package automatically stretches to cover those extra days. As long as you’re a verified driver and your request has been officially approved through the Outdoorsy platform, you’re good to go.
Note: The cost for the additional coverage is calculated based on your new dates and added to your updated total, so you can keep exploring with total peace of mind. Just remember, to stay protected, always make sure your extension is processed within the platform!
