What is the Outdoorsy Wishlist Feature?
The Outdoorsy Wishlist feature is a collaborative trip-planning tool that allows renters to save, organize, and share RVs and campgrounds. Rather than a simple "favorites" list, it functions as a collection of trip-focused folders designed to streamline the booking process for specific adventures.
Key Capabilities
Trip-Specific Organization: Users can create multiple wishlists, each customized with unique titles, travel dates, Guest counts, and specific preferences such as pet-friendliness or ADA accessibility.
Integrated Content: Each list can include both RV rentals and campgrounds, which can be viewed in a standard list format or on an interactive map.
Collaborative Planning: The owner of a wishlist can invite friends or family to join via a share link. Once they log in, collaborators can help add or remove options and refine trip details together.
Sharing and Visibility
Private Collaboration: Used for group planning where invited members can actively edit the list.
Public Read-Only Links: Creators, such as trip planners or influencers, can generate a public URL. This allows anyone to view the wishlist without needing an Outdoorsy account
How to create a Wishlist and add listings to it
Whether you’re dreaming of a weekend getaway or a cross-country road trip, Wishlists help you keep your favorite finds in one place. Save the perfect rigs, cozy campgrounds, and must-see escapes so you’re ready to hit the road when the time is right.
On the web:
You’ll usually create a wishlist while you’re browsing rentals or escapes:
Sign in to your Outdoorsy account on the website.
Browse rentals or campgrounds (search results or a listing detail page).
Click the heart / save button on any listing card or detail page.
The Create Wishlist drawer will open:
If you don’t have any wishlists yet:
Enter a name in the input box (max 50 characters)
Click Save. Outdoorsy will create the wishlist and automatically add the rental.
Outdoorsy creates the wishlist and automatically adds that rental to it.
If you already have wishlists, you’ll see a list of existing wishlists, each with:
Cover photo
Wishlist title
Item count
Either:
Select an existing wishlist to add the rental OR
Click Create a new wishlist, type a name, and save
Note: For faster browsing, Outdoorsy automatically saves new listings to your most recently used wishlist. If you want to move it elsewhere, click the Change link that appears briefly in the confirmation message after you click the heart.
The drawer closes, and the heart stays filled, indicating the item is saved.
To remove a listing, navigate to the listing and click the heart icon again.
On the app:
Open the Outdoorsy app and sign in.
Browse rentals or campgrounds using search or open a specific listing.
Tap the heart / save icon on the listing card or listing page.
If you’re not logged in, you’ll be prompted to log in or sign up first.
After tapping the heart / save icon:
If you don’t have any wishlists yet, you’ll see a Create a wishlist window:
Enter a wishlist name in the Name field (up to 50 characters).
Tap Create to make the wishlist and save the listing to it.
If you already have wishlists, you’ll see a list of existing wishlists, each with:
Cover photo
Wishlist title
Item count
Either:

Click Create a new wishlist, type a name, and save
To remove a listing from a wishlist
From the listing card or listing page, tap the heart icon again.
This will remove the listing from whichever wishlist it’s currently saved in.
What other actions can I do with my Wishlists?
Planning a big event or a group gift? You don't have to manage your list alone. You can invite friends and family to view, add, or edit items in real-time.
How to Invite Collaborators
Open your Wishlist: Navigate to the wishlist page of the list you want to share.
Tap or click the "Share" button: Look for the share icon under the wishlist title.
On app: This will generate a link for you to copy and send to your friends and family
On the web: You'll see the Share wishlist window. On the window, locate the "Copy share link" button, and click on it to copy the link.
Note: Wishlist links expire after 24 hours. If you want to generate a new one, just follow the steps above.
Send the Invite: Copy the unique link and send it via text, email, or social media.
What's the difference between Public and Private Wishlists?
You have full control over who sees your travel plans. Whether you’re brainstorming a solo trek or coordinating a multi-family caravan, choose the privacy setting that fits your trip.
Private Wishlists: For collaborations
Best for: Group trips and collaborative planning.
Outdoorsy User Access Only: Only the owner and invited collaborators can see the contents.
Safe & Secure: To view a private list, your friends will need to log in or create an Outdoorsy account.
Public Wishlists: View only
Best for: Sharing your gear recommendations with the world.
Open Access: Anyone with the link can view your wishlist—no account required!
Easy Sharing: Perfect for sending a quick list to a friend who just wants to browse without signing up for anything.
How do I change a Wishlist's privacy settings?
Ready to go from a private planning session to sharing your finds with the world? You can switch your privacy settings at any time with just a few taps.
Open the Outdoorsy app and sign in.
Go to Wishlists from the main navigation.
Tap the wishlist you own that you want to change.
On the wishlist details screen, open the action menu (the menu for that wishlist – typically a “…” or similar).
Choose:
“Make public” to let anyone with the link view it without logging in, or
“Make private” to restrict it to logged-in members only.
I added collaborators to the Wishlist. What can they do?
Planning an adventure is better with friends! When you invite someone to your private wishlist, they become a Collaborator. This allows them to help you build the perfect itinerary in real-time.
Collaborators can:
Curate the Trip: Add or remove rentals (and even saved campgrounds or "escapes") to help find the best spots.
Fine-Tune the Details: Edit search filters like trip dates and Guest counts to see what fits everyone's schedule.
Give it a Name: Rename the wishlist to match your trip's vibe.
Manage Their Status: They have the freedom to leave the wishlist at any time if their plans change.
Collaborators cannot:
To keep your wishlist secure, certain "Admin" powers stay only with the Owner (that's you!):
Invite Others: Only the owner can generate and send invite links to new people.
Delete the Wishlist: Your hard work is safe—only the creator can permanently delete the list.
