Question: Why is Outdoorsy updating the add-on system?
Answer: We are making these changes to build Guest trust and help Hosts secure more bookings. Guests have reported frustration with "bait-and-switch" pricing when essential items (like toilet paper or soap) are listed as optional add-ons with extra fees. This new system creates transparency, allowing guests to trust the total price upfront, which prevents them from abandoning bookings.
Question: Can I still have a separate "Cleaning Fee" add-on?
Answer: No. The "Cleaning Fee" will no longer be an optional add-on. All standard cleaning and preparation costs must now be consolidated into the dedicated "Prep Fee." This ensures a single, transparent fee for getting the vehicle ready.
Question: What if a guest returns the RV excessively dirty?
Answer: While standard cleaning is covered by the Prep Fee, you are still protected against misuse. If a Guest incurs legitimate fees after the trip—such as excessive dirtiness, failure to dump waste tanks, or damages—you can apply those as a standard post-trip charge using the existing post-trip charge workflow.
Question: What are the new required "Standard Amenities"?
Answer: To meet universal Guest expectations, the following amenities are now required for all listings:
- Basic Kitchen Kit (pots, pans, utensils, plates, and cups)
- Basic Consumables (toilet paper, paper towels or other simple cleaning supplies, hand soap)
- Clean and Sanitized Fresh Water Tank (filling the tank is optional, but sanitization is required prior to handoff)
You must provide enough supplies to accommodate the specific occupancy size of your RV for the duration of the rental.
Note: The list of required amenities has been updated as of March 11, 2026.
Question: How can I cover the cost of these required amenities?
Answer: We understand that providing these items involves a cost. You are welcome to adjust your nightly rate or your Prep Fee to account for these supplies. However, please keep in mind that listings with highly competitive rates often receive more visibility in search results.
Question: How has the list of Optional Add-Ons changed?
Answer: We have created a clean, standardized list for optional extras, focusing on the most popular and profitable items guests actively search for (such as Pet Fees, Propane, and Grills/BBQs). This makes it easier for guests to find what they need without sifting through cluttered options.

Question: Can I still offer unique or custom add-ons that aren't on the standard list?
Answer: Yes! You can still add unique custom items (like a "Portable Hot Tub" or "Specialty Hamper"). To keep our marketplace organized, these custom items will undergo a quick, one-time review by our team before appearing on your listing.
Question: What is the add-on review for, and can my custom add-on be rejected?
Answer: The review is a quick check to ensure your custom add-on isn’t duplicating a "Standard Amenity" or a "Standard Booking Component". Our goal is to keep the RV rental marketplace organized and transparent for Guests.
Your custom add-on will be approved quickly as long as it is a unique, optional extra and is NOT one of the following:
- Required Standard Amenity: Items that should be included in your base nightly rate or Prep Fee (e.g., toilet paper, kitchen kits, or RV preparation).
- Standard Booking Component: Costs that are already part of the standard booking workflow or platform calculations (e.g., delivery fees, taxes, or young driver fees).
Question: What are some other examples of a disallowed add-on?
Answer: To help you determine which items can no longer be listed as optional extras, we have categorized the disallowed add-ons below:
-
Required Standard Amenities (Essential "Setup Kit" items required for basic RV accommodation and included in the base rate or Prep Fee):
-
Basic Consumables
Toiletries such as toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, and basic cleaning supplies
-
Kitchen Kit
Standard cookware and dining sets (pots, pans, utensils, plates, and cups)
-
Standard Prep Fee Inclusions
Mandatory cleaning and preparation services (sanitation, interior/exterior cleaning)
-
Water Tank Cleaning and Sanitizing
Filling water tanks is not mandatory, but having the tanks clean, sanitized, and ready for a refill is
-
-
Standard Booking Components & Vehicle Feature (Items that are either core vehicle features or are already a main component of a standard Outdoorsy booking):
Automatic Transmission Fees
Delivery Fees
Insurance Fees
Service Fees
Taxes
Young Driver Fees
Additional Guest or Driver Fees
Extended Trip Fees
Question: Do I need to manually update my listing right now?
Answer: No action is required on your part. Over the coming weeks, our team will automatically migrate your existing add-ons to this new, cleaner structure.
Question: Are beddings and linens still part of the required amenities?
Answer: No. While bedding and linens were originally included in the standardized required amenities list, they have been moved to the optional add-ons list. This change provides more flexibility for both parties:
For Guests: It allows those who prefer to bring their own linens to avoid extra costs.
For Hosts: It reduces the logistical burden of laundry, sanitation, and storage between rentals.
Question: Can we now offer leveling equipment as an add-on to Guests?
Answer: Yes. While leveling essentials were originally part of the standard amenities list, they have been moved to the optional add-ons list. This change allows Hosts to charge a fee for the use of this equipment.
Important Safety Note: Because improper leveling can affect vehicle stability and appliance function, we recommend that Hosts provide clear instructions or verify that Guests are experienced with using the specific equipment provided (such as blocks, ramps, or electronic systems) before handoff.
Question: Is there anything we can do about the additional fuel cost and risk for the required fresh water tank fill-up?
Yes. We value our Hosts' feedback and have updated this policy accordingly. While filling the water tank was previously required, Hosts are now only required to ensure water tanks are clean and sanitized prior to handoff.
We’ve made this change to address two main concerns:
Safety and maintenance: To reduce risks, especially in sub-freezing temperatures.
Fuel efficiency: Full water tanks add significant weight, which increases fuel consumption.
Note: While filled fresh water tanks are no longer required as an amenity, Hosts may still offer filled tanks to their guests. If provided, the labor and cost for filling may be included in the Host's Prep Fee.
Question: Do we have any other updates on the allowed add-ons list?
Answer: Yes. In addition to moving Bedding/Linens and Leveling Essentials to the optional add-ons list, we have introduced a Winterization Fee add-on. This allows Hosts to charge for the specialized preparation required to protect plumbing and water lines from freezing or bursting during sub-freezing temperatures.
Question: I have a specific question/feedback about the add-ons and amenities standardization. Which channel should I use?
Answer: We definitely want to hear from you! Your input is important to ensuring this transition supports your RV rental business. If you have any specific thoughts, questions, or feedback regarding the new standardization, please share them via our Outdoorsy Add-ons Feedback Form.
